Shea Butter

SHEA BUTTER
(Butyrospermum parkii)

Renowned for its excellent emollient properties and ability to help improve the barrier function of the skin, we source our shea butter from West Africa, where the pulp of the fruit is removed to reveal the kernel, which is boiled and dried in the sun before being shelled for pressing.

Aloe Vera

ALOE VERA
(Aloe barbadensis)

Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.

Apple Fruit Extract

APPLE FRUIT EXTRACT
(Pyrus malus x domestica)

Used for its ability to smooth and promote shine, we source our apples an award-winning organic farm in the heart of Herefordshire, England, where herbs have been grown and processed for 30 years. The farm has twice been the winner of the Silver Lapwing, the UK’s leading environmental and farming award.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not my favourite I have been using this since the previous shampoo was discontinued so have given it a quite a long time to test it out, I am not that impressed. I have to use more of the product than I did with the old one to clean my hair and it feels quite dry after washing so I have to use more of the conditioner to soften it and make it feel less straw like. I dont have dry hair but it feels like i do every time I wash it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dreadful new formula I started using the new formula after years of using the original one which was perfect for my hair leaving it shiny and smelling beautiful. This new formula is dreadful. Firstly my eyes were stinging terribly and then my hair itched and was so dry. I had to wash my hair twice to even feel slightly clean and use lots of conditioners after. Having looked at all the ingredients in this formula especially the sodium hydroxide I can understand why it's so bad. Compared to the ingredients in the old formula which were far more natural on the whole. It also faded the colour in my hair. Won't be using it again. Please return to the old formula

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done to this Shampoo?! It’s now awfu I have used your shampoo on and off fur the last few years and always loved it. My mum is also a fan and regularly uses it too. But what have you done to it, it is now awful to use and we are thoroughly disappointed! She bought me some for Christmas and treated herself at the same time. I thought it was just me, until we compared experiences. At first I thought I had a dodgy tune as it is sooo difficult to squeeze out. Plus the texture is horrible and won’t even larger properly. The conditioner is fine but I am very disappointed in whatever has changed. Will no longer be purchasing or recommending.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New Formula Shampoo I have used the original Botanical Shine Shampoo since it was introduced, it was the perfect product. The new formula does not suit my hair. I have naturally straight hair, it is finer but thick. The new formula leaves my hair flat and feeling as though it needs washed. I used different small quantities, different heats and rinses. Nothing worked. Last week I was thrilled to find a tube of the original formula in a toilet bag, using it reminded me how good it was, it left my hair shining with life. Recently, I have tried a number of good quality shampoos but am still searching to find something to match the original Liz Earle shampoo. I have learned one lesson; to stop relying on one brand for my important products, find an alternative to keep as a back up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad batch? Needs a product recall I seriously think there had been a bad batch because I was given this as a gift in a set with the conditioner and hair mask. I have used it twice and my hair is like straw! Liz Earle would not intentionally put this product out like this surely? Fairy liquid would do a better job!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Problem packaging Shampoo is great but the packaging is poor. If the tube falls with the top tightly closed the stopper breaks and stays n the top of the tube stopping the contents from coming out. This has happened to me a few times.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New formula very disappointing The new formula is very disappointing. It is a thick gel which is difficult to squeeze from the tube, it doesn't lather and it doesn't leave my hair soft and silky. The old formula, which I have been using for years, was so much better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please, please return to original formula! This shampoo is the only one I have used since it was released for purchase. I absolutely loved it. The new formula however is lacking in many ways. It is difficult to lather even with lots of water ( I live in a soft water area! ), the texture of the gel is sticky and I need to shampoo at least twice before I feel it has really cleaned my hair. I have persevered with it but now have decided to stop using it altogether. Such a shame as original formula was far superior. Is there any chance you can return to original as you did with skin tonic boost and repair and why was it changed when it worked so well???

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as previous shampoo I have used this shampoo for years but recently I have been disappointed with its performance. Have they changed tbe formula? It just doesn't lather up the same so I end up using much more than I used to which costs me more money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gentle shampoo On subscription one a month for this shampoo. Both me and my husband use it. Not quite as good as the old formula but it just needs a bit of extra water. I have used it for years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t bother [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Awful replacement for the original shampoo. Will never purchase again. Smells like cough medicine. Makes your hair tangly and straw like . I never needed conditioner when I used the original shampoo, I do after using this . No idea how they thought it was a good replacement for the beautiful shampoo that came before…

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A change too far I’ve loved the shampoo since its inception but recently I’ve struggled to identify why my hair is limp and doesn’t hold any body. Trial and error has discovered that it is the newer formula shampoo. So sad. I realise that the recipe was changed because of a supply issue, but that doesn’t help my hair. Our shampoo relationship is over……

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy and will buy again I have very long, coily hair. I normally use Elemis shampoo but, unable to get hold of that, I thought I would give this a go. It is absolutely perfect for my hair - it leaves my coils smooth and silky. I agree with others that it's difficult to get it to lather, but does that really matter if, as with me, it leaves your hair feeling beautifully clean and with no itch? It also smells wonderful, really fresh. I don't plan on going back to Elemis.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Leaves hair in really great shiny condition. I used to use this shampoo a few years ago and everyone used to say how shiny my hair was. I was brought a different high end shampoo and conditioner, so i have been using that since my LE one ran out. Recently i thought my hair didn't look as good as it used to. I have started using this again and started getting compliments on the condition again. I will be sticking with this shampoo again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Perfect shampoo for me. I don’t use anything else. Leaves my hair soft and shiny. I’ve had many mildly allergic reactions to other shampoos but never have any adverse reaction to this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible new formula I have used the Liz Earle shampoo for years and loved everything about it. I didn’t realise the formula had changed so when I bought some new bottles I’m very disappointed that the new formula is not a patch on the original. It’s thick, doesn’t lather and leaves my hair feeling horribly dry. It doesn’t have the same lovely herbal smell either. Such a change that since ownership has changed the formulas are being changed, and not for the better. Much like the original face cream that was altered, the quality is poor, and more in line with supermarket brands, rather than luxury.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't buy again I understand that formulas may be tweaked, but this hasn't been tweaked, it's been completely re-vamped. It's now more of a gel than a liquid and is far harder to squeeze out if the tube. Because it's gel-like it also slips off your hand as you try to rub them together to get an equal amount on each hand so you end up wasting it. It leaves my grey hair feeling dry, so for the first time ever I'm having to use a conditioner, which, having always had very short hair, I've never needed to do before. It may be it's not suitable for grey hair which is different from younger hair. My hairdresser has noticed a difference, and not for the better, so I'm now on the hunt for a different brand. I hadn't stocked up because a) I didn't know the formula was changing and b) the old shampoo lasted for months because I needed so little. I wish I had! This is a total disaster as far as I'm concerned!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointed! I have been a devotee of Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner for many years and i'm so disappointed with the new formulation. I agree with others that it leaves my hair straw like and doesn't lather as well as the old one. My biggest gripe is that it is almost impossible to squeeze out from the tube!! I'm sad to say that you are losing another loyal customer, I won't be buying again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not great! Much prefer everything about the old formula. Won't be buying again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 😔 new formula I loved the old formula, my hair had never looked better, even my hairdresser said so. Sadly though, my hair and I do not like the new shampoo. As per other reviewers, it’s difficult to lather, matts my hair and seems to have the effect of leaving my hair greasy, yet dry, frizzy and straw like. It’s really hard to squeeze out of the tube too. I wish Liz Earle had said it was a new formula on the tube, I hadn’t noticed and I had stocked up, and now it’s too late to return. I understand that if ingredients are unavailable, they cannot stick to the old formula, but this is so different. Sadly I will be finding another shampoo

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New formula is awful I loved the old formula, was perfect for my hair nut this new one leaves my hair looking like a birds nest when i have finished washing, as good as the conditioner is even that can't get the knots back out resulting in me loosing chunks of hair at a time. Needless to say i no longer use this!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing formula change. Doesn’t lather I have used the Liz Earle shampoo for many many years and absolutely loved it. The new formula is unusable for me. It doesn’t lather and appears the strip and dry out your hair. I wrote to liz Earle initially thinking my order was a faulty batch. No one bothered to reply. It was only reading the reviews I realised the formula had changed and they many fans felt the same. I’m my humble view it’s not worth even trying. It damaged rather than gentle cleansed and nourished my hair.

Why did you only ask a few (only 2O) of your loyal customers to try the reformulated shampoo? The constant negative reviews are a reflection of your poor trial of the shampoo.

Asked by: Orla26
Unfortunately you asked the wrong 84% of customers going by the negative reviews. I didn’t know formula had changed and hair was dry/ straw texture. Will not be using this again. Will say I still like the conditioner.

You have stated the reason for changing the formula of your bestselling shampoo is because the ingredients are difficult to source? I suspect the true reason for the drastic change in formula is cheaper, poor quality ingredients and profit for the company

Asked by: Del666
They probably need all the profit they can get , due to all the awful changes that have been made to most of the products. All the lovely spray oils , and bath oils ! Gone… All of the Energising body products! Gone…The Shampoo in its original formula , all gone !! Liz Earle never needed to have sales , when Liz still owned the company, but they do now !!

On your responses to the reviews about the change in formula,  botanicals are not available & your product team have worked hard on the new formula, how can this be when there is such a dramatic change, I left a bad review and will return the product.

Asked by: Mazzini
84% said they would change to the new formula ?? Forget your panel results and read the reviews on here. The shampoo is awful but will say the conditioner is still nice.

Hi I have used Liz Earle shampoo for many years, however the new Botanical shine shampoo is awful and this is such a shame. I feel you really need to listen to all the negative reviews and re look at this shampoo as you will definitely loose customers.

Asked by: Used Liz Earle for years
I agree too, I have tried to persevere but I won’t be buying anymore, not just because it strips my hair but because it’s too thick and with arthritis in my hands I struggle to squeeze it out of the tube. Very sad to have to find an alternative after so many years 😢
