Aloe Vera

ALOE VERA
(Aloe barbadensis)

Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.

Calendula

CALENDULA EXTRACT
(Calendula officinalis)

Well-known for its calming and soothing effect on skin, we source our calendula from Egypt, where our ingredient is solvent extracted from the petals of the flower.

Chamomile

CHAMOMILE EXTRACT
(Anthemis nobilis)

Legendary for its skin-soothing properties, the flowers of this aromatic perennial are harvested in England in the summer, before the ingredient is solvent extracted from the fragrant flower.

Cucumber

CUCUMBER EXTRACT
(Cucumis sativus)

Loved for its intensely soothing, cooling and hydrating properties, we source our cucumber from within the UK, where our ingredient is produced from the fresh, green flesh of the vegetable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New tonic I prefer the old formulation this seems a bit ‘foamy’

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Such a shame I have been using this range for 20 years and have always loved this tonic. Well, what has happened to this once gorgeous product? Aroma different, texture different and leaves a strange sticky foamy film on my skin. I don't like the new bottle either as it wastes the product and the lid isn't too secure. So, Cleanse & Polish has changed now the toner. I will use the remaining bottle I have and then find a new range. Please take note of your customers

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why change? Why have you changed this?? It was a great toner that cleansed my skin, now it is just a soapy mess. It leaves a residue that interacts with my other applications. If I wanted soap, I'd but soap. Please go back to the original formula otherwise I will have to go elsewhere. This is not the only product that has changed and I have to say it is putting me off you entire range. To be eco friendly you are alienating your products. Not only is the green off-putting but every thing appears to be less effective why??

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soothing but uplifting Living in Spain, After Brexit it is difficult for me to buy this, luckily family are sending me some for Christmas. I have found nothing else in Europe, as lovely to use as this skin booster.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing Sorry to say but I am so disappointed with the new formula of the instant boost skin tonic! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the beautiful aroma and refreshing formulation of the original skin tonic which was a pleasure to use. I have been using Liz Earle products since Day 1 launch purchased on the famous shopping channel over 20 years ago and bought from LE direct and various places over all these years since and have always loved the original instant boost skin tonic. As well as using on a cotton disc, I liked to spritz the product to refresh my skin after cleansing or through the day when I needed to freshen up and have filled my old LE spritz bottle with the new product but it now clogs and lands in blobs on my face. The new formula has no uplifting aroma and doesn't give my skin the glowing boost the old formula did. I hardly ever write reviews but feel so disappointed with the changed product, I felt compelled to write this. Sounds dramatic but I feel like I've lost an old friend! Sadly I will have to find a new alternative and will not be repurchasing the new Instant Boost Skin Tonic formula.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So sad I have been buying Liz Earle products for nearly 20 years. I love the hot cloth cleanser and up until my latest purchase, the toner. I failed to read other reviews so didn't realise there had been a complete change of ingredients. I agree with the other reviewers. If it ain't broke don't fix it! The new toner does not smell as nice but more importantly doesn't seem to do as good a job. My face doesn't feel clean and refreshed as before and the toner feels soapy. I will have to search out an alternative!! I'm soo sad.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Instant boost tonic I am not keen on the new formulation. I wanted to like it as I love all LE other products but it stings and irritates my eyes, and has caused a breakout. The smell is not the same either. The last formulation you could actually double up as a body spritz but I wouldn't do that now

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I have been using Liz Earle products for over 20 years and am now having to rethink my purchases. Whereas previously the skin tonic was light and refreshing, leaving my skin feeling hydrated, it is now cloying, sticky and foam like on my skin. I will not be purchasing it again unless the formula is changed back. Likewise the EyeBright lotion too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I'm leaving! I've been a solid, loyal Liz Earle product user for 16 years but I've decided to find another range. The change in tonic did it for me. I'd read other bad reviews but thought I would make up my own mind. The reformulated tonic is NOTHING like the old one and leaves a soapy residue all over my face which gets worse when you layer other products on top. I'm also very unhappy with the Liz Earle response to unhappy customers as this is clearly a totally different product. I'm very sad to be leaving the LE family but feel I have no other option and I'm not taking a chance on all the other products changing. Bye bye!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New formulation Hi - first of all I really don't like being negative about a product especially Liz Earle products, as my skin has really benefited from using them for 10 years, and thank you Liz Earle for that. However I am giving an honest review of the new formulation of the Instant Boost Skin Tonic. I ordered it as part of the Daily Routine and started using it a week and a half ago after finishing the previous 'original' tonic. I had read reviews about the new formulation and decided to give it a go myself as everyone's skin is different. I decanted it into the spritzer bottle as I prefer using that. However after some days of use I have noticed that (1) It makes me break out in spots (2) it stings on my skin and on the eyes. I have to wipe it from my eyes immediately (I temporarily used a mini spritzer of the old formulation yesterday and it didn't sting at all) (3) It doesn't have the original relaxing smell nor has a relaxing feeling on my skin (4) It does not give my skin a healthy glow like the other tonic did (5) My moisturiser takes ages to sink in after using it. I wonder why it has changed. If it is for cost cutting purposes I feel it may have spectacularly backfired. However on a positive note the rich skin repair moisturiser has improved (I reviewed this separately). I really hope Liz Earle do not adjust any more ingredients in best selling products. I hope you do not mind my honest review.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done to this?!! What have you done to this wonderful product? Why does it now need a 'sensitive' version? This new regular version smells disgusting, dries sticky and makes my skin feel like it is burning! Chucked it down the sink. Won't be buying again!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New bottle I have been using this for several years but the new bottles seem to be a different formula. l thought there was something wrong with it at first so tried a different new bottle but just the same leaving a soapy residue. Seems like I'll have to look elsewhere for skincare.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please change it back I don’t know what has happened to the skin tonic but I do not prefer the new one. I cannot believe after 15 years of use I’m now going to have to look for an alternative product. Please please consider bringing the version that we know and love back, This is more like the eye bright. Has a viscosity to it that almost a bit sticky. It’s no longer cooking and refreshing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So Sad this product has changed I’ve been using LiZ Earle cleanser, toner and moisturiser for many years. Recently the packaging changed to different bottle for the Instant Boost Skin Tonic. Unfortunately the product has changed too. It used to be a lovely fresh smell and made my skin feel really good. Now it smells of nothing, leaves my skin feeling sticky and as others have reviewed, soapy. I thought there was something wrong with the product at first Why has the formula changed? ( it can only be for cost reasons surely), and please can you bring back the old version (with the superior bottle ) Reading some other views this seems to be others’ experience too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done? And why?? I’m one of the most loyal Liz Earle customers and have been using range for probably 15 years plus. Started a new bottle of skin tonic last night and it was horrible! Slimey, foamy, unpleasant smell and feels like a film left on my face. Compared ingredients with my old bottle and sure enough completely different. To add insult to injury, I believed it was just a packaging change and stocked up when it was on offer so have 2 bottles of this stuff. From other reviews clearly I’m not the only one, and likely I’ll find the same problem with other favourites when I come to renew. So it looks like it’s time to find another regime. I’m really disappointed. Why did you feel the need to do this?
Date published: 2021-11-19
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Formula has changed! I'm really disappointed with the new formula, why did they have to change it?! The original one was lovely and refreshing on the skin, but sadly this one is rather sticky and the added ingredients don't suit my skin. I'm unsure how LE can continue to class this toner as 'award winning' when the formula has changed; this is very misleading. I think it should also be highlighted on the website and packaging that there has been a change to the formula for those of us with very sensitive skin who may be allergic to certain ingredients. Unfortunately, with the change to the toner, and the Skin Repair no longer suiting my skin (yet another LE change that was unnecessary!) after 15 years I will have to go elsewhere for my skincare in future.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Packaging no longer user friendly It is a shame that this is no longer in a spray bottle; my elderly mother loved to use this product but no longer does so as she is unable to 'pour' it onto a cotton pad.
Date published: 2021-11-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Refreshing I have used Liz Earle skin tonic for many years as part of my skin care routine and have always loved the freshness it gives to my skin. I agree with other reviews that it has changed but the overall quality remains the same. However, as I have previously mentioned, I prefer the old style container as I found it easier to control the quantity required due to a tremor in my hands. I would definitely recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Foamy and sticky I have to say that I have been disappointed with the changes that have been made to this tonic. It used to be refreshing and uplifting but now it is strangely sticky and foamy. On the plus side I haven’t had an adverse reaction to it, but the foamy effect leaves a film that makes me want to wash my face all over again. I won't be buying this again unless Liz Earle confirm that the original formula (or something close to it) has been reinstated.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What on earth has happened This used to be my favourite Liz Earle product ,it was so refreshing and the smell was heavenly ,I always carried it in a spritzer during the summer to refresh my skin and makeup ,BUT ,what in heavens name has happened to this new formula? Smells awful ,leaves my skin sticky ,can't use around eye area which I loved with the original ,sadly I've had to change to another brand ,have 1 unused bottle that's going in the bin along with my opened bottle , bitterly disappointed, doesn't even deserve 1 star, sorry

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Formula change I have used Liz Earle for many years, but I won't be using it any longer. I am so disappointed with the new formula. Skin tonic was so soothing and hydrating plus it smelt lovely. I've just opened a new bottle to find that it now stings my skin and the nice smell is gone. This has happened with several Liz Earle products over the last few years. Sadly the brand has gone down hill and I will be going elsewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A once loved product is now so disappointing Came to have a look at the comments for the new formula and I see I’m not alone in the disappointment of what used to be a brilliant product. I’ve used the previous version of the IBST for nearly 10 years and loved the formula, the wonderful smell, and how it made my skin feel after using it. Having used this new version over the last week, I’m so disappointed with this new formula. Like others have said it foams on my skin, smells very chemically (!!?) and feels very sticky to the touch afterwards. Please reconsider the changes you have made to this product as I’ll need to find an alternative now.

Should this liquid be a brown colour ?

Asked by: Carlaj72
I have used IBST for years except when it was reformulated. I then went back to the tonic when it was reverted back to the original and I have never known it to be brown? Please note this style of bottle contains the reformulated tonic.

This type of bottle contains the reformulated tonic that everyone, including myself  disliked.   Thank goodness it was changed back to the original formula in the original packaging. Unfortunately I would not recommend this tonic in this bottle.

Yes, I have used this as a spritz but use at arms length to do that. Usually just one spray is enough.

I would also like to know whether LE is doing anything about the change in formula given all the negative reviews. It doesn’t look like anything has progressed in the last 2 months when you said you were working on a solution ….

Asked by: Jones92
You can buy the skin tonic in the original formula if you look on the website..the cleanse and polish is the same as it always was, it still has that lovely smell and it’s thick and creamy and to me hasn’t changed

The 50ml new look bottle states underneath, ‘new look, same product’, however I have one of the new look bottles in the 200ml size and comparing the ingredients with the old bottle there are clearly 2 new added ingredients listed 3rd and 4th. Not as good.
