Aloe Vera

ALOE VERA
(Aloe barbadensis)

Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.

Calendula

CALENDULA EXTRACT
(Calendula officinalis)

Well-known for its calming and soothing effect on skin, we source our calendula from Egypt, where our ingredient is solvent extracted from the petals of the flower.

Chamomile

CHAMOMILE EXTRACT
(Anthemis nobilis)

Legendary for its skin-soothing properties, the flowers of this aromatic perennial are harvested in England in the summer, before the ingredient is solvent extracted from the fragrant flower.

Cucumber

CUCUMBER EXTRACT
(Cucumis sativus)

Loved for its intensely soothing, cooling and hydrating properties, we source our cucumber from within the UK, where our ingredient is produced from the fresh, green flesh of the vegetable.

Aqua (water), Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-10-caprylate, Decyl glucoside, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, Cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, Anthemis nobilis (chamomile) flower extract, Calendula officinalis (calendula) flower extract, Humulus lupulus (hops) extract, Phenoxyethanol, Panthenol, Allantoin, Parfum (fragrance), Benzoic acid, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Dehydroacetic acid, Sodium hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Linalool, Limonene, Citronellol, Geraniol, Coumarin, Citric acid, Potassium sorbate, Glycine soja (soybean) oil.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oh dear! Just opened my new shaped bottle - missed the lovely fragrance - then out came some soapy slimy liquid. Yuck - - did I have a dodgy bottle ?? Came on here to check what was going on - it appears it’s not just me. Very disappointed- I have been using it for 15 years. What have you done? Won’t be buying it again

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful Changed beyond recognition and even aggravated my sensitive skin. I have not found an alternative yet, the old formula was so good and I just cannot understand why Liz Earle would change it so much and make it into such a poor product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish cheap toner I have always used Liz Earle toner but it has changed, it now feels & smells cheap and not the quality product it once was, I fear it has gone the same way as the moisturisers & I have also stopped using those too. Please please don’t change the cleanse and polish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Changed I have been using this product for years. When the shape of the bottle changed so did the contents it is no longer the beautiful smelling refreshing tonic I am used to it is now a sticky soapy mess. Why have you messed with this trusted formula.. so upset will no longer purchase liz Earle

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unhappy I started using my new look toner for the first time a few days ago and my skin has reacted badly with raised lumps that itch and burn. I do have sensitive skin but Liz Earle products are usually ok.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done to this?? I rang the customer service centre to complain that the formula had changed as it foamed on my face and now no scent to be told that nothing had changed. Come on LE? Who are you kidding? Now seeing all the negative reviews on this so called “unchanged” product I feel I too need to add my voice. I’m a LE devotee of almost 20 yrs and also feel you are being disingenuous (which is more worrying) to say this product hasn’t changed. I was offered a refund if I returned all 3 bottles purchased and now reading all these negative reviews I shall return. Why mess with something that worked and that LE fans loved??? Hugely disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gentle toner for all skin types I have been using this product for over 15 years and this and cleanse and polish has made a huge difference to my skin. Would not dream of using anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Freshens my face I’ve been using Instant Boost Skin Tonic for 3 or 4 years now - it’s a firm fixture in my morning routine. I decant it into a small Tonic spray bottle (bought sometime ago as a trial size) and spritz my face after I’ve showered but before applying moisturiser. My face immediately feels fresh and ready to go!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Why change things?! This will be the last bottle of toner that I’ll buy, I’ve been using this toner for 20 years, it’s now foamy, sticky and the smell is different. Come on LE why change things and chace loyal customers away?’

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product, horrible new lid! I've loved this product for many years, it smells divine and really works on my skin. However I don't like the new flip up lid design at all. I much preferred the old twist lid as it was much more user friendly. This new lid snaps off really easily as well, leaving the lotion open!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully refreshing I have been using this product for many years and always keep a stock so as I don't run out! It's refreshing and does what it says on the tin!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oh dear ! I have used Liz Earle since day one when it was in the pink packaging I have had to accept that things have changed and in my opinion certain products are not as good as the originals. However, the latest change to instant Boost skin tonic is absolutely dreadful. It feels very tacky and soapy and I will never buy it again. In the past I purchased direct from your lovely call centre and from QVC and from Boots but no more. The same is true of eyebright. A wonderful product totally ruined. What I really cannot understand is why these two absolutely beautiful products which had no competition at all in the market place have been reduced to these new versions. PLEASE listen to your loyal customers who actually are posting from their hearts and go back to your original formula and make us happy again. Happy New Year and hope your resolutions will be to sort this out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Always been 5 stars until now …. I love everything about instant boost skin tonic and have used twice a day every day for the last 20 years (I think!). Recent delivery was as usual but the new shaped bottles - nice change. Used for the first time two days ago. Has the formulation changed? Slightly different fragrance and felt different on my skin. Went slightly soapy on application on my usual cotton pads, a bit like a micellar cleanser. Once dried it left my skin sticky and not the usual fresh, slightly moisturised feeling I’m so used to. Now A few spots have appeared! I’ve not had spots for years!!! Is there a change in ingredients? I’m persevering as I order three at a time but really do not like this last batch. So disappointed. This was always my hero product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Instant cooling! I’ve used this product for a few years now after being recommended it by the Liz Earle sales assistant in John Lewis, as I was experiencing some hot flushes she suggested keeping it in the fridge & spritzing when needed! I use it morning & night before applying the moisturising cream, it’s a good base for keeping skin supple I find. Definitely one of my must have items, I love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New formula. Arghhhhhh I wish I’d read the reviews before purchasing a new stock of my favourite spray. Feels sticky & not at all the same. Appreciate it’s more natural, but there was nothing to warn us that it is a different formula & therefore different. What a waste of an order.
Date published: 2021-12-31
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible since it’s changed. Will no longer use I was really upset that you’ve changed a product that I was using for 10+ years and made it completely different. It no longer has the beautiful rose scented geranium smell, it’s now has a plasticky scent. Aside from that, the liquid itself has a sort of foamy/sticky feel when applied to the skin, and doesn’t compare to the old formula at all. Notice how all the older reviews for the original formula are great but the new reviews are terrible. I will no longer be using this product. Please change it back.
Date published: 2021-12-27
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Toner - this is awful I too have been a faithful long term user of this toner. This revised formula is unusable. Clearly and hopelessly wrong. Soapy, frothy, sticky slimy and similar to neat, cheap washing up liquid on the skin. I also used to love the previous formula face moisturising creams until they were altered. Can’t use the new versions either. Leave your products alone or you will lose your customers. Don’t buy this toner it’s really awful now.
Date published: 2021-12-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Healthy clean skin I use this product after my Liz Earle cleanser. A little goes a long way. It has a llovely light scent. My face feels and looks softer and brighter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Changed formula Such a shame that you have changed this product. I loved using it but now it leaves my eyes red and itchy. I bought when on offer a while ago so no longer have the receipt to get a refund. I will need to try alternative skincare next time. I have used your products for many years and am very disappointed that it wasn’t made clear the product had changed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely aweful I cannot believe that Liz Earle has now change the Instant Boost Skin Tonic as well as the Skin Repair Moisturiser. It is horrible and tacky and made my whole face and eyes itch like mad. I will never be using these products again after having used them for so many since since the very day they came out. These products do not relate to the products that Liz Earle sold to us years ago. A disgrace

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Changed Formula ! Can’t use Have been using Liz Earle products for 4 years now, was wonderful to find something that suited my skin perfectly, however.. new toner makes my eye lids sore, red & itchy. As other reviewers i found the new formula to be foamy on my cotton pad. Sorry LE. you’ve just lost a very loyal customer & annoyed that i’ve just purchased a new bottle that i can’t use !

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Been using this product for about 20 years, oh dear what have you done feels like soapy water with no fragrance and Leaves skin sticky, unfortunately I will no longer be using this product and will change my daily routine to another brand . such a shame as I have always recommend to friends.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why fix what is not broken I am a qualified Beauty Therapist and have been using Liz Earle Toner for many years. I regularly stock up and have bottles in my fridge. I have seen some of the recent reviews for the toner when they changed the ingredients to make it more plant based. I thought that perhaps it was just a few disgruntled customers. Well I tried the new formula last night and this morning ( just to be sure) and it stings the eyes, feels sticky, and irritates the skin. My husband also said it stung his skin! As we all know , plant based products can cause inflammation as well as and infact more than some less " natural" ingredients. So now I will be moving on to find another brand, along with other long standing customers. Ok Change the packaging , although most prefer the old style. Will liz Earle be listening to it's customers and bringing back the original formula- I doubt it. If they do I suggest a relaunch - perhaps an advert saying YOU SPOKE - WE LISTENED- LIZ EARLE THE BRAND THAT CARES. So come on listen to your customers .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done! Why change a winning formula? I have used this for years but have just used the new version. Horrible, soapy and very drying. Will not use again. It is also misleading to leave all the 5* reviews of the previous toner on the site.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done to the Toner!?? Unless the formula reverts back to the lovely Toner that I had used and loved for years and years, I will not buy again.

Have used this for years, can you please tell me why it now comes in a spray bottle ,I didn't order it as such and it is very wasteful, as far as website is concerned I ordered bottles as shown

Asked by: Lily Kent
I too have used this for years, my latest order was for bottles and that is what I received, albeit the shape of the bottle has changed. Perhaps you were incorrectly sent the wrong bottle?

Is anyone at Liz Earle reading all these negative reviews of IBST and the reviews on QVC?  Will you be considering changing back to formula with PEGs and listening to your loyal customers?  I would love to hear from you.

Asked by: Berat
Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. Please rest assured that we in the customer centre team collate and feedback all feedback from our customers, both positive and negative. We have been trying to make improvements to the products you love and we acknowledge this has resulted in a change to the sensorial experience of Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic. What's happened to this previously reliable product? I've been this on my rosacea prone skin for 15 years with no problems. New formula has irritated my skin & made my eyes sore. Please give us the option of the old formula!

Asked by: GHarris
Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. We are very sorry to hear you have experienced a reaction. All of our formulations are made to be as mild and gentle as possible and all products are assessed and approved by independent safety experts prior to placing them on the market. While our recent update to replace PEGs with plant-based alternatives is intended to make the formulation gentler for the majority of our customers, we are aware that every individual is different, and some people can react to ingredients that are gentle for most people, in the same way that some individuals have specific food intolerances. Please do email us at naturallyactive@lizearle.com and include the batch code of the product which can be found on the base, for example - U1234A, and where this was purchased. Has your Skin Tonic Formula Changed ? No scent in my bottle at all

Asked by: Angela R
This is a disaster! It began with the superskin concentrate ( I now make my I own in an old rollerball I kept from an original bottle). LE have consistently said contents are unchanged, which is clearly untrue! If I were LE, I'd be ashamed to have my name attached to this now. IBST, Skin repair and superskin concentrate. What's next? I'll not be risking LE products again
Answered by: Bexster1975

I would also like to know whether LE is doing anything about the change in formula given all the negative reviews. It doesn’t look like anything has progressed in the last 2 months when you said you were working on a solution ….

Asked by: Jones92

Most disappointed by the change in formulation of your skin tonic, but even more disappointed that the change is not highlighted on website, which is unethical considering your target customers. Please explain why not. (& cf John Lewis website).
