ALOE VERA
(Aloe barbadensis)

Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.

Calendula

CALENDULA EXTRACT
(Calendula officinalis)

Well-known for its calming and soothing effect on skin, we source our calendula from Egypt, where our ingredient is solvent extracted from the petals of the flower.

Chamomile

CHAMOMILE EXTRACT
(Anthemis nobilis)

Legendary for its skin-soothing properties, the flowers of this aromatic perennial are harvested in England in the summer, before the ingredient is solvent extracted from the fragrant flower.

Cucumber

CUCUMBER EXTRACT
(Cucumis sativus)

Loved for its intensely soothing, cooling and hydrating properties, we source our cucumber from within the UK, where our ingredient is produced from the fresh, green flesh of the vegetable.

You asked, we listened. We’ve brought the original formula of our Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic back. Whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering this well-loved product for the first time, we’ve answered your frequently asked questions below.

 

Is the packaging still in line with your sustainability goals?

It is important that we retain the progress we’ve made on packaging sustainability. That’s why we’ve managed to return to the old-style twist-up packaging while making these packs using 50% recycled materials – they’re fully recyclable too!

Have you gone back to a formula with PEGs?

Yes, we have reverted to our original formula, which does use PEGs as part of its preservative system. We chose to try and remove PEGs from our formula, knowing that some customers prefer to avoid these ingredients altogether. However, please rest assumed that our products have always been, and continue to be safe to use.

Will you move Eyebright™ back to the original formulation and pack too?

As with Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic, we have been listening closely to the feedback of you, our customers, and we are currently working on a solution for this.

Will you bring back the old Skin Repair™?

We understand that some of our long-standing customers were unhappy with the relaunch of Skin Repair™, but we also received positive feedback. While we have no plans to bring back the original formulas, we are in the process of reviewing the range.

Can I still purchase the updated formula?

Yes, for the time being to avoid unecessary waste. Both formulas contain all the same naturally active ingredients, at the same effective levels, so we are confident you will continue to see all the hydrating, soothing skin benefits you’ve come to enjoy from our Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic. Why does the original version feel and smell different to the updated version?

The original formula uses a different preservative system which can impact how you experience the feel and scent. However, rest assured that it contains all the same naturally active ingredients, at the same effective levels.

It is cooling and refreshing, especially in hot humid weather, and it leaves my skin soft, not dry. Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only 'toner' I would use I put the word toner in inverted commas as really it is as it says, it is a skin tonic. Refreshing, does not dry the skin, smells fantastic (which for a product is not really a benefit as such). Liz Earle over the years have stopped producing products, changed the ingredients of some (in fact they did bring out a slightly changed version of the tonic and have now gone back to the original version). Just hope they keep producing the Skin Tonic, without any changes.

hello, I'm wondering, I'm on the fence. Did they reformulate this after so many complaints of the foamy sticky consistency? I had to throw a bottle away a couple of years ago. But I was hoping to re purchase is they fixed this issue. thank you.

Is it definitely 100% the original formula? I really don’t want to waste money buying multiple bottles and end up with the sticky new one again :’( it feels too good to be true ….

No I don’t think it is. It smells different.  Is almost colourless instead of the original brownish colour.  And it stings and made my face itch.

Why did you change the formula for the skin tonic In the first place? I was told by assistant in Boots that it was just the packaging had changed but unfortunately bought it and it was different and could not use it.

What happened to the spritz bottle version. I much prefer it but can’t find that option anymore

Hi, thank you for your question. We can confirm that we have discontinued our Instant Boost spritzer due to the packaging not being as sustainable as it could be. Pleased be assured that we are exploring a more sustainable solution, in the meantime, you can still purchase our alcohol-free hydrating tonic in the regular 200ml bottle. We recommend if you still have your old spritzer bottle, to refill and re-use it, once you have washed and dried it thoroughly. Alternatively, a similar spritzer bottle would also be suitable, if you do not have our original Instant Boost Spritzer packaging.
