Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.
CALENDULA EXTRACT
(Calendula officinalis)
Well-known for its calming and soothing effect on skin, we source our calendula from Egypt, where our ingredient is solvent extracted from the petals of the flower.
CHAMOMILE EXTRACT
(Anthemis nobilis)
Legendary for its skin-soothing properties, the flowers of this aromatic perennial are harvested in England in the summer, before the ingredient is solvent extracted from the fragrant flower.
CUCUMBER EXTRACT
(Cucumis sativus)
Loved for its intensely soothing, cooling and hydrating properties, we source our cucumber from within the UK, where our ingredient is produced from the fresh, green flesh of the vegetable.

Instant boost tonic formulas
So I need to put this out there..I read bad reviews about the new formulas and I myself stopped buying Liz products because of this, but I then found that instant boost tonic was returning in the old formula so I was delighted to get it back..yes the new formula is not good and definitely does not smell or feel like the original, but you can buy the old formula again!!
Also because of bad reviews on the cleanse and polish I again stopped buying this but my skin missed it and one day decided to return to it and I can honestly say I found no difference at all, it still smelt gorgeous and was thick and creamy..gosh I really missed it..so now I am happy with my cleanse and polish and my original formula of skin tonic..
Please don’t rely on bad reviews use your own judgement..I did and now I’m delighted to return to Liz xx

Instant Boost Skin Tonic
A happy discovery years ago and still used. This is my desert island item as it refreshes and gently moisturizes with a lovely uplifting fresh fragrance and goes in my hospital bag. Not sure if it is still available as a spray still but refreshing in hot weather or heated hospital wards and is truly an instant boost.

Great tonic as a toner
I have always loved Liz Earle products since I was recommended to buy her cleanse and polish and toner way back in 2009 for my acne on my chin (came back on face at age 48!) cleared up a treat! I used the tonic to clean extra on the cleansed face.

Lovely smell but not for my skin!
Such a shame- bought this to go with gift of face wash, but it really does not like my sensitive skin. Love the smell and does make skin clean and polished. Unfortunately for me also gave me sore and blustered skin. Love Botanicals perfume but skin care not for me

Such a lovely toner
My winter skin needed a hydration boost as i usually get some dry patches during winter time. I've been using the instant boost skin tonic every morning (still using an exfoliating toner in the evenings)in the last few weeks and it seems like it's exactly what my skin needed. Dry patches are gone and my skin feels more balanced. Would definitely purchase again.

Disappointed with change.
I bought a couple of bottles for my sister (who lives abroad) as she loves this toner. Unfortunately I purchased the round bottles which were slightly cheaper not reusing that the formulation had changed.. Very disappointed, the lovely fragrance that I expected was missing, and it just didn't seem the same. Didn't have enough time to exchange.. Was disappointed, but happy to know the old formula and bottle is coming back according to the little insert explaining. Why mess with what is good is my question..

Is the new packaging?

In June 2021, we did change the formulation of our Instant Boost Skin Tonic and therefore we changed the packaging of this product too. Due to customer feedback, we then reverted to the original formulation in 2022 and relaunched the Instant Boost Skin Tonic that our customers knew and loved and changed back to the original style of bottle.

Can this be used as a spritz?
Yes, I have used this as a spritz but use at arms length to do that. Usually just one spray is enough.

I would also like to know whether LE is doing anything about the change in formula given all the negative reviews. It doesn’t look like anything has progressed in the last 2 months when you said you were working on a solution ….
You can buy the skin tonic in the original formula if you look on the website..the cleanse and polish is the same as it always was, it still has that lovely smell and it’s thick and creamy and to me hasn’t changed

The 50ml new look bottle states underneath, ‘new look, same product’, however I have one of the new look bottles in the 200ml size and comparing the ingredients with the old bottle there are clearly 2 new added ingredients listed 3rd and 4th. Not as good.

Original formula would have been great but not the new formula as it now tacky, foamy and stinging on the skin.

Why can’t I buy the pump action version of face wash, I really don’t like the squeezy tube. Fortunately I am still able to buy it n a high street store.

Most disappointed by the change in formulation of your skin tonic, but even more disappointed that the change is not highlighted on website, which is unethical considering your target customers. Please explain why not. (& cf John Lewis website).

We can confirm that we have replaced the synthetic PEGs in both our Instant Boost Skin Tonic and Eyebright Soothing Eye Cleanser with gentler, certified sustainable plant-based alternatives. We understand that increasingly customers want to use only the most gentle, naturally derived ingredients on their skin. Recently, the safety of PEGs (polyethylene glycol) has come under scrutiny. This is less to do with the PEGs themselves and more to do with the potentially problematic impurities that can be created as by-products when they are synthesised. While many suppliers have updated their processes to eliminate these risks, many customers prefer to avoid PEGs altogether.
