CALENDULA EXTRACT
(Calendula officinalis)
Well-known for its calming and soothing effect on skin, we source our calendula from Egypt, where our ingredient is solvent extracted from the petals of the flower.
CHAMOMILE EXTRACT

Legendary for its skin-soothing properties, the flowers of this aromatic perennial are harvested in England in the summer, before the ingredient is solvent extracted from the fragrant flower.

Loved for its intensely soothing, cooling and hydrating properties, we source our cucumber from within the UK, where our ingredient is produced from the fresh, green flesh of the vegetable.

Instant Boost Skin Tonic
I usually buy this product in multiple packs so I have a good supply to keep me going. I have only just opened and tried your new look Instant Boost Skin Tonic, my initial reaction was that it is quite different. At first I thought it was just me so decided to look into it and read some of your more recent reviews on the new product and I see that it is not just me after all. The new one is slightly foamy and feels thicker on my skin, it doesn't have that amazing 'wake me up' aroma any more, I wouldn't say it dried my skin out as others have reported. I will continue to use this new one, I don't absolutely hate it but give me the old one any day. As another reviewer commented, I will look into suppliers who still have the original tonic in stock and bulk buy

Different tonic
I ran out of my Liz Earl tonic so ordered some more online. I have to say it does seem a bit different this time. I’m not sure if that is a good thing or not. I did read some other reviews that mentioned the product had changed and was now a bit foamy.

Dreadful reformulation
The new formulation of this product stung my skin on application and left it feeling dry, whereas the original formulation always felt wonderfully cooling and soothing. Despite having been a customer for many years, the experience of this reformulation, on top of other reformulations and changes, have left me feeling I can no longer trust this company's products on my sensitive skin. Such a shame.

Nothing like the original product
I've just used the new formulation skin tonic and I'm afraid that it'll be the last time. I've been using the original product for many years and I loved it but the new version is horrible. My skin was left feeling tight but with a greasy residue of the product left on the surface and I had to rinse it off. A great product has now been ruined.

I love everything about instant boost skin tonic and have used twice a day every day for the last 20 years (I think!). Recent delivery was as usual but the new shaped bottles - nice change. Used for the first time two days ago. Has the formulation changed? Slightly different fragrance and felt different on my skin. Went slightly soapy on application on my usual cotton pads, a bit like a micellar cleanser. Once dried it left my skin sticky and not the usual fresh, slightly moisturised feeling I’m so used to. Now A few spots have appeared! I’ve not had spots for years!!! Is there a change in ingredients? I’m persevering as I order three at a time but really do not like this last batch. So disappointed. This was always my hero product.

Instant cooling!
I’ve used this product for a few years now after being recommended it by the Liz Earle sales assistant in John Lewis, as I was experiencing some hot flushes she suggested keeping it in the fridge & spritzing when needed!
I use it morning & night before applying the moisturising cream, it’s a good base for keeping skin supple I find.
Definitely one of my must have items, I love it!

New formula. Arghhhhhh
I wish I’d read the reviews before purchasing a new stock of my favourite spray. Feels sticky & not at all the same. Appreciate it’s more natural, but there was nothing to warn us that it is a different formula & therefore different. What a waste of an order.

Horrible since it’s changed. Will no longer use
I was really upset that you’ve changed a product that I was using for 10+ years and made it completely different. It no longer has the beautiful rose scented geranium smell, it’s now has a plasticky scent. Aside from that, the liquid itself has a sort of foamy/sticky feel when applied to the skin, and doesn’t compare to the old formula at all. Notice how all the older reviews for the original formula are great but the new reviews are terrible. I will no longer be using this product. Please change it back.

Toner - this is awful
I too have been a faithful long term user of this toner. This revised formula is unusable. Clearly and hopelessly wrong. Soapy, frothy, sticky slimy and similar to neat, cheap washing up liquid on the skin. I also used to love the previous formula face moisturising creams until they were altered. Can’t use the new versions either. Leave your products alone or you will lose your customers. Don’t buy this toner it’s really awful now.

Healthy clean skin
I use this product after my Liz Earle cleanser. A little goes a long way. It has a llovely light scent. My face feels and looks softer and brighter.

Changed formula
Such a shame that you have changed this product. I loved using it but now it leaves my eyes red and itchy. I bought when on offer a while ago so no longer have the receipt to get a refund. I will need to try alternative skincare next time. I have used your products for many years and am very disappointed that it wasn’t made clear the product had changed.

Absolutely aweful
I cannot believe that Liz Earle has now change the Instant Boost Skin Tonic as well as
the Skin Repair Moisturiser. It is horrible and tacky and made my whole face and eyes
itch like mad. I will never be using these products again after having used them for so many since since the very day they came out. These products do not relate to the products that Liz Earle sold to us years ago. A disgrace

Changed Formula ! Can’t use
Have been using Liz Earle products for 4 years now, was wonderful to find something that suited my skin perfectly, however.. new toner makes my eye lids sore, red & itchy. As other reviewers i found the new formula to be foamy on my cotton pad. Sorry LE. you’ve just lost a very loyal customer & annoyed that i’ve just purchased a new bottle that i can’t use !

Been using this product for about 20 years, oh dear what have you done feels like soapy water with no fragrance and Leaves skin sticky, unfortunately I will no longer be using this product and will change my daily routine to another brand . such a shame as I have always recommend to friends.

Just bought 3 bottles from Booths chemist. very disappointed. i have used instant boost for years and was very happy with it, Don't like this new consistency it leaves my face feeling very sticky. do you have any of the old stock left i would really like to exchange

Why fix what is not broken
I am a qualified Beauty Therapist and have been using Liz Earle Toner for many years. I regularly stock up and have bottles in my fridge. I have seen some of the recent reviews for the toner when they changed the ingredients to make it more plant based. I thought that perhaps it was just a few disgruntled customers. Well I tried the new formula last night and this morning ( just to be sure) and it stings the eyes, feels sticky, and irritates the skin. My husband also said it stung his skin! As we all know , plant based products can cause inflammation as well as and infact more than some less " natural" ingredients. So now I will be moving on to find another brand, along with other long standing customers. Ok Change the packaging , although most prefer the old style. Will liz Earle be listening to it's customers and bringing back the original formula- I doubt it. If they do I suggest a relaunch - perhaps an advert saying YOU SPOKE - WE LISTENED- LIZ EARLE THE BRAND THAT CARES. So come on listen to your customers .

What have you done!
Why change a winning formula? I have used this for years but have just used the new version. Horrible, soapy and very drying. Will not use again. It is also misleading to leave all the 5* reviews of the previous toner on the site.

Emulsifies and smells like washing up liquid
I was very disappointed to discover that once again LE had reformulated another product. The old toner was lovely and fresh and had a great botanical scent. This formulation smells like washing up liquid and bubbles and emulsifies leaving a weird white residue that you have to wipe away. I've had to throw this away because it was so bad. Total waste of money. Will be switching to another brand unfortunately after being a loyal customer for years.

Change of ingredients
Have used this product for 15+ years as part of my cleansing regime & stopped my skin from being over sensitive over the years. This as now changed for the worst as the product soaps up / irritates my skin & eyes . I’m now looking for a new brand which is a disappointment as has love/use & always highly recommended LE.

Not only the formular ......
I have been using Liz Earle since the beginning and have to agree with the reviews here : You have changed it. It is also annoying that the bottle has changed. The rectangular bottle was so much more useful with regards to open and close it / screw the top. Now the opening is too big, too much comes out, that little lid is unsafe in a washkit, I guess by letting more fluid come out you can sell more, it does not go so far, I am totally unhappy with that and will be looking around for an other option. Why this change ? Bring back the rectangular bottle.

Should this liquid be a brown colour ?

We can confirm that our Instant Boost Skin Tonic does have a golden hue however, due to the to differing harvesting methods we use along with the different locations and seasons, this can affect the natural plant oils and botanicals we use in our formulations. This may impact on the colour, aroma or texture of a product. However, this should be very minimal and does not affect the performance of the product.

Is the new packaging?

In June 2021, we did change the formulation of our Instant Boost Skin Tonic and therefore we changed the packaging of this product too. Due to customer feedback, we then reverted to the original formulation in 2022 and relaunched the Instant Boost Skin Tonic that our customers knew and loved and changed back to the original style of bottle.

Can this be used as a spritz?
Yes, I have used this as a spritz but use at arms length to do that. Usually just one spray is enough.

I would also like to know whether LE is doing anything about the change in formula given all the negative reviews. It doesn’t look like anything has progressed in the last 2 months when you said you were working on a solution ….
You can buy the skin tonic in the original formula if you look on the website..the cleanse and polish is the same as it always was, it still has that lovely smell and it’s thick and creamy and to me hasn’t changed

The 50ml new look bottle states underneath, ‘new look, same product’, however I have one of the new look bottles in the 200ml size and comparing the ingredients with the old bottle there are clearly 2 new added ingredients listed 3rd and 4th. Not as good.

is the product suitable for teenage acne? is the product non-comedogenic? how often should I use the product?
Original formula would have been great but not the new formula as it now tacky, foamy and stinging on the skin.

Why can’t I buy the pump action version of face wash, I really don’t like the squeezy tube. Fortunately I am still able to buy it n a high street store.
