This unique fragrance opens with fresh top notes of Italian bergamot, mandarin and bitter orange, unfolding to reveal a heart of lavender, geranium and Damask rose. With a base including spicy patchouli, vetiver and tonka bean absolute, the complex blend of Botanical Essence™ No.1 translates into warmth and sensuality on the skin.
Over 98% derived from natural ingredients, Botanical Essence™ No.1 has been skilfully blended by the distinguished perfumer, Jean-Charles Niel in Grasse, France.

Not as citrusy
My go to product is normally Versace Versense Eau de Toilette which is very fresh and citrusy. This botanical essence in comparison seems more spicy- woody. I find the scent close to my partner’ s aftershave.

Sophisticated elegant feminine clean, unusual
I bought this about a month ago, and I am so happy with it. I had not tested this so it was a completely blind purchase based on the reviews and also the strength of Liz Earle as the founder of this amazing company. I worked in London during the 80's and 90's and at that time we were lucky enough to have perfumes that we now call classics and that are still go to's for many women. One such perfume was hands down my go to for Summer because it smelled clean, fresh and feminine, with a grown up sophisticated feel and without it being too floral.....It was an original by Dior, called Diorella, but it was either discontinued or the production of it was scaled down and it became hard to find. I just did not like the new Dior perfumes so I went without a Summer fragrance for years, flitting from one to another and finding that all the ones I loved seemed to get discontinued which was most frustrating as there are a lot of perfumes that give me a headache so finding one that I love and that loves me was very tricky to say the least. I had been wanting to try the Liz Earle Fragrances for a long time but due to living abroad, it was not possible so finally as my son had booked a trip to UK, I ordered some and he brought it home for me. To finally smell Botanical Essence No. 1, Eau de Parfum, was like a trip down memory lane! It is very similar to Diorella as when I spray it, it reminds me of it and transports me back to my youth, but it also has much more layering of other scents that I am loving. To me, it feels like I have been transported to a Sicilian garden and the Nona's are making fresh lemonade with a hint of Bergamot......it is divine, but there is something exotic that wafts in after I smell the Italian Bergamot, Vetiver and Lemon, a sweet undercurrent of other scents that cut through also but do not over power. It reminded me of when I cut into fresh Limes, I get a burst of tropical coconut that immediately transports me to a white sandy beach and palm trees....and the same happened with No 1, it could be the Cardamon that I can smell, also the Coriander which are both favourites of mine anyway.....so I think I lucked out completely finding this fragrance to call my own! No. 1 would make a wonderful Spring/Summer fragrance but if you are like me, you will just love to be in that Sicilian garden all year round! I commend the creator of this fragrance as they have done an excellent job in creating this trip to Sicily in a bottle.

I actually don't think this answer is good enough. I have No1 and No9 and they both list parfum as an ingredient - so I take it to mean yes and therefore despite the fancy claims I won't be using Liz Earle perfumes any more.

What is the shelf life on the perfumes, unopened and open?.
I keep perfume in its box and in the dark/ cool. I have found this particular fragrance has lasted well once opened and continues to smell amazing for a year or more. I’ve usually finished the bottle by then so it may be much longer. I can’t comment on how long it last unopened.

Do you do fragrance samples to purchase before buying a full sized bottle as I find perfumes very hard to buy!

Unfortunately, we don't have samples of our Botanical Essence to send to customers. We used to have 2ml vials, but they were getting damaged in transit, so we have stopped including these with our customers orders.
You will find our counters in all large Boots and John Lewis stores, where an advisor will allow you to try any products at the counter, and may be able to provide you with a small sample. Is this the new No 1 perfume with different ingredients?

We have maintained the current botanicals within our fragrance so that the finish of the scent you know and love remains unchanged. However, we have needed to tweak the parfum of Botanical Essence™ No.1 slightly to comply to updated European regulations.
We do have a great 60 day returns policy, should you find any products you purchase with us direct, unsuitable.
