Botanical Shine™ Shampoo Results

Shea Butter

SHEA BUTTER
(Butyrospermum parkii)

Renowned for its excellent emollient properties and ability to help improve the barrier function of the skin, we source our shea butter from West Africa, where the pulp of the fruit is removed to reveal the kernel, which is boiled and dried in the sun before being shelled for pressing.

Aloe Vera

ALOE VERA
(Aloe barbadensis)

Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.

Apple Fruit Extract

APPLE FRUIT EXTRACT
(Pyrus malus x domestica)

Used for its ability to smooth and promote shine, we source our apples an award-winning organic farm in the heart of Herefordshire, England, where herbs have been grown and processed for 30 years. The farm has twice been the winner of the Silver Lapwing, the UK’s leading environmental and farming award.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible new formula I don't get why some customers like this. When the formula changed, after years of using the shampoo, the new formula ruined my hair. It is like washing up liquid. I spent a lot of effort and an itchy scalp trying out alternatives till I found something that works. It doesn't suit me as much as the original Liz Earle though.I live in a soft water area but the new shampoo just wouldn't lather however much water I used. I have, or did have, normal hair till the new formula dried it out.I do wonder whether the divergence in views is about the age of the customer and whether it just doesn't work on grey hair. Anyway I still use Cleanse and Polish but won't buy the shampoo again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smells lovely, lathers well. Really nice. I purchased this for the first time. Washing hair more often in this heat, I wanted something a little more gentle. I found it smells lovely & lathers well, which I was a little concerned about, having read some previous reviews. I soaked my hair and added shampoo, lathered up absolutely no problem at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Simply doesn't work in hard water areas - tangled This formula simply doesn't work in hard water areas e.g. Leicestershire, no matter how much you pre-lather in your palms or load you hair with water. Tangled matt of hair, difficult to lather, impossible to wash out, hair feels dry and has to be loaded with conditioner. And yet in a soft water area it lathers fine and hair is OK - no wonder the reviews are so contrasting. Loved and used the original formula since it launched - soothed my sensitive scalp, hair felt great - I bulk bought when the formula change was announced and am now on my last original bottle. So I thought I'd better give the new formula a try - but it is not fit for purpose in a hard water area. Was it product tested in hard water areas? I'd give my eye teeth to track down some more of the original formula

You have stated the reason for changing the formula of your bestselling shampoo is because the ingredients are difficult to source? I suspect the true reason for the drastic change in formula is cheaper, poor quality ingredients and profit for the company

Asked by: Del666
Look at my review on here with a photo of the ingredients in the original shampoo. Lots of lies here from Liz Earle team, there were loads of changes made to the original formula, not just 2. The new formula is full of cheap ingredients and having done some research all of the ingredients are available I’ve looked at other product ingredients in shampoos. Funny how they never specify which ones weren’t available.  I don’t trust Liz Earle any more on the back of this issue - the Shampoo and Conditioner for Dry Hair used to be my holy grail, even more so than products twice the price. I’ve got medium density curly hair, the shine and moisture I used to get from both was unreal. it’s not a luxury brand any more just a mid price brand using cheap ingredients in Liz Earle packaging. How sad.

On your responses to the reviews about the change in formula,  botanicals are not available & your product team have worked hard on the new formula, how can this be when there is such a dramatic change, I left a bad review and will return the product.

Asked by: Mazzini
I noticed a difference, but I had no idea they changed the shampoo!!! I'm going to pay attention now!

Why did you only ask a few (only 2O) of your loyal customers to try the reformulated shampoo? The constant negative reviews are a reflection of your poor trial of the shampoo.

Asked by: Orla26
Unfortunately you asked the wrong 84% of customers going by the negative reviews. I didn’t know formula had changed and hair was dry/ straw texture. Will not be using this again. Will say I still like the conditioner.

Is this shampoo sulphate free

Asked by: Lynnhen
Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Our haircare range is free from sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate (SLS/SLES) so it offers high performance gentle cleansing without stripping. We hope this information helps - The Customer Care Centre

Hi I have used Liz Earle shampoo for many years, however the new Botanical shine shampoo is awful and this is such a shame. I feel you really need to listen to all the negative reviews and re look at this shampoo as you will definitely loose customers.

Asked by: Used Liz Earle for years
I agree too, I have tried to persevere but I won’t be buying anymore, not just because it strips my hair but because it’s too thick and with arthritis in my hands I struggle to squeeze it out of the tube. Very sad to have to find an alternative after so many years 😢
