Shea Butter

SHEA BUTTER
(Butyrospermum parkii)

Renowned for its excellent emollient properties and ability to help improve the barrier function of the skin, we source our shea butter from West Africa, where the pulp of the fruit is removed to reveal the kernel, which is boiled and dried in the sun before being shelled for pressing.

Aloe Vera

ALOE VERA
(Aloe barbadensis)

Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.

Apple Fruit Extract

APPLE FRUIT EXTRACT
(Pyrus malus x domestica)

Used for its ability to smooth and promote shine, we source our apples an award-winning organic farm in the heart of Herefordshire, England, where herbs have been grown and processed for 30 years. The farm has twice been the winner of the Silver Lapwing, the UK’s leading environmental and farming award.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I have read your recent response to a customer review. You have stated that you will not be reformulating the shampoo. Why are you not listening to all of the negative reviews? Shame on you! Please rebrand your name because your products are nothing like the original Liz Earie.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst shampoo I’ve ever used This is the worst shampoo I have ever used! I like to look after my hair and always treat myself to what I consider to be luxury branded shampoo. I recently saw that Liz Earle offered a shampoo and conditioner and purchased them. I could not believe that despite wetting my hair fully the lather was minimal even after adding water but worst then that my hair felt like straw matting beneath my fingers a su tried to massage it in. I then used teh conditioner in attempt to bring it back to life but this also didn’t feel great and I resulted in having to put a deep conditioning treatment on my hair. I have a short Bob and dread to think how this would feel on longer hair. Totally disappointed and left with unusable products as I would not even give them away!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please reformulate! I, like a lot of customers, loved the original formulation of this shampoo. I have only just tried this new version and, as others, are disappointed it has changed beyond recognition. After using and drying my hair, I looked like Worzel Gummige! Fortunately, I could tame my hair with anti frizz products. PLEASE LE, listen to your customers and reformulate this product to something that is as good as the original. I do not know how this passed your testing board.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oh dear ! I have just purchased my first new formula shampoo, so so disappointed. My hair was always soft and shiny with the original but now it is just horrible. I can’t believe I am saying this but will not be buying this again, unless the original returns !.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Feels cheap and the price is too expensive. As per usual the price goes up and the quality goes down. I have read the reviews and see that some of the original ingredients are not available, however I don’t like how this product makes my hair feel . It’s no longer smooth and silky but feels like a cheap supermarket shampoo. What are you doing to the original Liz Earle concept?
Date published: 2023-12-29
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never again I have been using this product for years but not any more. The last tube I bought was a different formulation which initially had little foam and left my hair like straw. Even the conditioner didn't help. Also after using it twice my skin and scalp became incredibly hot and itchy I couldn't live with the discomfort. Consequently I've found an alternative and won't be buying this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shampoo Success I have been using this product for years, due to sensitive skin. Not cheap, but very effective.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst shampoo!! Oh my goodness, this new shampoo is absolutely useless! why on earth did you change the original version which was FANTASTIC ?? is it to save you money on ingredients? You can see that most reviews are asking you to return the original one and I sincerely hope you will listen. In the meantime I will be looking elsewhere for another shampoo.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bring back the original formula! Not happy with the new formula as it does not lather up like the original formula. The shampoo is clear in colour so it’s difficult to see how much you’re using and I have to use twice as much to get a lather. No squeak at the end and I’m thinking of going back to using my hair salon’s shampoo. Unusual for a Liz Earle product to disappoint me but this one has.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Itchy Scalp .. Won't Be Buying Again!! I had heard that the formula for this product had changed and that numerous customers had said they were now unhappy with the shampoo. I hoped they were wrong, but no .. unfortunately it has now given me back an itchy scalp .. the very reason I had turned to Liz Earle products in the first place. I will be returning the unused bottle I have to Boots and won't be purchasing again. PLEASE don't change your formulas on other item.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No longer thrilled Because I bulk buy when there are offers on, I’m a bit late to the discovery that this product seems to have undergone a change. It’s not very nice. My hair isn’t left soft and shiny any more. I’m so disappointed with a company that keeps raising its prices yet fails to inform its customers, by means of a ‘ new formula ‘ label or similar on the tube. I’m buying fewer products from you these days.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing product Have been using this shampoo for years but extremely disappointed with the new formula! It did my hair no favours & definitely won’t be buying it again

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful I’ve used Luz Earle for years and was a huge fan of the original shampoo. This new product is absolutely awful - you need loads of it to get a lather (and yes I have followed the instructions). I thought it may have been because I live in a hard water area, but it isn’t. I no longer use Liz Earle shampoo and this makes me sad 😔 The one star is for the fragrance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Shampoo on the mRKET My wife has been using Liz Earle Shampoo for over 15 years and will not use any other brand, all family and friends remark on her beautiful Hair so she has pleasure in recommending this product

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My hair loves it, but I don't I've been using this for years as it's the only shampoo that doesn't worsen my scalp psoriasis. A couple of months into the new formula and thankfully my scalp and hair still love it. However, the new formula makes it a pain to use. I've finessed how to do it (properly soak hair first, add a little bit to hair, soak again, and then add more which will now lather easily), but it uses more product than before which means it's more expensive. Also, after a certain point it's really hard work to squeeze from the bottle. I thought I was imagining this, but my second bottle of the new formula is the same.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hate the new formula The previous formula was about the only shampoo I could find that didn't give me eczema on my hands' so I've been buying it for years. I hadn't noticed this was a new formula when I ordered it, but I could tell straightaway. The texture is more gel-like so you can't rub it in properly and and it doesn't lather up much. And now of course, I'm starting to notice the eczema on my hand. Please bring back the old one, otherwise I'm back to the drawing board!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Changed formula and not for the better Soon as the rep in John Lewis told me its chaging i bulk purchased but i did buy the gift set with the new formula shampoo to give it a go . I have colour treated hair can be frizzy from time to times hormones play a big part this shampoo left no shine and left a different feel to my hair it was clean but didnt last as long i had to wash again day 2 not impressed at all bring back that light weight feel shampoo of the original formula . Im now switching to aveda shampure much nicer feel im.just sorry you have lost a buyer for this line.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Please go back to drawing board I’ve used LE shampoo for years and loved the shine and feel of my hair after washing. I feel the same as the other reviewers this new formula is dreadful. You have apologised but please find another ingredient that gives us back the shampoo we all love. Please listen to these complaints and please save our shampoo and make it much better for us to love again

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointing I have used this shampoo for over 12 years and it was definitely one of my favourite hair products. However I am very disappointed by the new formula. It creates no lather to speak of and leaves residue in my hair. I will not be purchasing this again unless the old formula returns.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this! I have been using this shampoo for years, now have it on subscription. High quality product leaves my hair feeling clean and looks shiny and healthy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New formula is awful I have used the original formula for years, it was perfect for my dry hair and psoriasis. I purchased a tube of what I now realise was the new formula, it was so awful I thought I had been sent a cheap knock off imitation. I used it twice, both times my hair was dry and straw like following the wash and my scalp felt dry and itchy. I threw the remaining product into the bin , I didn't even want to use it on my dog, please bring back the original formula or at least offer both products.
Date published: 2023-11-28
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shampoo quality gone down the drain I couldn't work out why my hair seemed to look like it needed washing after I'd just washed it, but I now realise this is down to the new formulation of the product. The old one used to make my hair soft and curly - this just feels like a cheap supermarket brand that does nothing. Will return the 'spare' tube I bought.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible change to shampoo I am so disappointed with the change to the formula of the shampoo. I have used Liz Earle shampoo for over 10 years but I would never buy this product again.
Date published: 2023-11-25
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Really disappointed in new formulation. I have used Liz Earle's shampoo for years and loved the way it left my hair feeling and smelling. The new formula is nothing like the old one even though it has the same name and packaging (which imo is very misleading). My hair feels dry after using it, rather than soft, the smell is completely different and not as nice, you need to use more of it as it doesn't disperse through the hair as easily and you have to squeeze really hard to get it out of the bottle, which makes it very difficult for people with poor hand strength or arthritis to use. I am definitely looking for a replacement, unless Liz Earle look again at this formula - which given the poor reviews, they really should. I know they have said that they can't source some ingredients, but there must be bio-similar replacements that would work without having to change the formula so drastically. I am certain it's a cost decision, but I would rather they sourced ingredients that cost a little more, than this new formula. Sorry Liz Earle - really disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible new formula We have been using the Liz Earle shampoo for many years, but the new formula is just awful. The clear, gloopy product has no nice scent, fails to lather, and leaves hair feeling dry and lifeless. Sadly, I won’t be purchasing again. You have sadly ruined a lovely, effective and popular product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still a great shampoo I've used liz earle shampoo for years as I find it gentle for my fine, straight, colour treated hair. I have noticed some consistency/increased foaming with the new formulation, but otherwise I have found it to be the same as the previous formulation in terms of how soft and shiny it makes my hair, and how gentle it is. Will continue to purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not so good anymore I gave the new formula a good try before writing this review. Initially the results feel mostly the same, although with less lather. Day 2 my hair feels heavy and slightly coated, which never happened with the old formula. It feels like any other natural shampoo now, whereas before it stood proudly above every other formula that I had tried. To me, this makes it not worth the extra money anymore. I would have gladly paid a little more for the formula to stay the same.
Date published: 2023-11-18
Rated 1 out of 5 by from New Shampoo formula I don’t normally write reviews but on this occasion I felt I had to agree with previous reviews about the changes to the formula. I have also used the old ‘creamy’ shampoo for many years and loved it but the new shampoo leaves my hair incredibly ‘tangled’ requiring a lot of conditioner (which also seems slightly different). My hair also feels dry after using. Sadly I am not sure I will repurchase when I have finished the current stock I have of it 🥲
Date published: 2023-11-17
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful new formula shampoo Having used Liz Earle shampoo almost exclusively for 20 years, I won’t be buying it anymore. The new formula has a different consistency, does not lather and doesn’t smell as nice. Even my husband commented on it being different and worse. If there was an option to give 0 stars, that would be my choice.
Date published: 2023-11-15
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Appalling new formula I have used Liz Earle shampoo for over 10 years but have had to stop as a result of the awful new formula. The smell and texture are very unpleasant. The shampoo left my hair feeling like there was wax in it. Worst of all I have had a recurrence of the scalp psoriasis that I had before starting to use the original Liz Earle shampoo.

Why did you only ask a few (only 2O) of your loyal customers to try the reformulated shampoo? The constant negative reviews are a reflection of your poor trial of the shampoo.

Asked by: Orla26
Unfortunately you asked the wrong 84% of customers going by the negative reviews. I didn’t know formula had changed and hair was dry/ straw texture. Will not be using this again. Will say I still like the conditioner.

You have stated the reason for changing the formula of your bestselling shampoo is because the ingredients are difficult to source? I suspect the true reason for the drastic change in formula is cheaper, poor quality ingredients and profit for the company

Asked by: Del666
They probably need all the profit they can get , due to all the awful changes that have been made to most of the products. All the lovely spray oils , and bath oils ! Gone… All of the Energising body products! Gone…The Shampoo in its original formula , all gone !! Liz Earle never needed to have sales , when Liz still owned the company, but they do now !!

On your responses to the reviews about the change in formula,  botanicals are not available & your product team have worked hard on the new formula, how can this be when there is such a dramatic change, I left a bad review and will return the product.

Asked by: Mazzini
84% said they would change to the new formula ?? Forget your panel results and read the reviews on here. The shampoo is awful but will say the conditioner is still nice.

Hi I have used Liz Earle shampoo for many years, however the new Botanical shine shampoo is awful and this is such a shame. I feel you really need to listen to all the negative reviews and re look at this shampoo as you will definitely loose customers.

Asked by: Used Liz Earle for years
I agree too, I have tried to persevere but I won’t be buying anymore, not just because it strips my hair but because it’s too thick and with arthritis in my hands I struggle to squeeze it out of the tube. Very sad to have to find an alternative after so many years 😢
