Why we’re removing PEGs from our skincare

We’ve made some changes to improve our ingredient transparency. We understand that increasingly customers want to use only the most gentle, naturally derived ingredients on their skin. Recently, the safety of PEGs (polyethylene glycol) has come under scrutiny. This is less to do with the PEGs themselves and more to do with the potentially problematic impurities that can be created as by-products when they are synthesised. While many suppliers have updated their processes to eliminate these risks, many customers prefer to avoid PEGs altogether.

What are PEGs?

What are PEGs?

PEG is an acronym for polyethylene glycol and is a synthetic with a long history of use in a wide range of personal care products. It is often used as an emulsifier or solubiliser to help keep formulas stable.

What changes have you made?

We’re proud to announce that we have replaced the synthetic PEGs in our Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic and Eyebright™ Soothing Eye Cleanser product lines with gentler, certified sustainable plant-based alternatives.

Same results

Does this impact the results?

Please rest assured that the naturally active ingredients within both these products are unchanged and included at the same levels as they were previously, so you can continue to expect the same trusted benefits. To ensure we could say this with confidence, 50% of our product test panel were long-standing users of these products, and 50% identified as having sensitive skin. Respondents experienced the same level of efficacy that they have come to expect from our formulas.

Texture

Is there a difference in texture?

We have had feedback from a few of our long-standing customers of some changes to the Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic product texture as a result of this update. If you should notice this then please rest assured that this does not impact product performance and you can continue to use the product as normal, sweeping over your face with a cotton pad for best results.

Brightening Treatment Mask

Do any of your products still contain PEGs?

We understand that some customers prefer to avoid PEGs, and over time capability has changed to enable us to formulate with gentler, certified sustainable plant-based alternatives. We therefore no longer use any PEGs in our formulations, with the exception of our Brightening Treatment Mask, however we have plans to update this shortly (in 2022).

Eyebright

Lists of ingredients (INCIs)

You may notice that the ingredient order on the back of pack has changed. With the update in packaging, we have taken the opportunity to update our INCI to be more in line with latest industry guidelines on good practice and transparency. Please rest assured that the naturally active ingredients within Eyebright™ and Instant Boost™ are unchanged and included at the same levels as they were previously, so you can continue to expect the same trusted benefits.

Notes on the transition

As to avoid any unnecessary waste, you may see both our previous and new packaging in circulation at this time. It’s our new packaging that contains PEG-free formulas; formulas within previous packaging are unchanged. Thank you for being understanding whilst our packaging transitions.
