Shea Butter

SHEA BUTTER
(Butyrospermum parkii)

Renowned for its excellent emollient properties and ability to help improve the barrier function of the skin, we source our shea butter from West Africa, where the pulp of the fruit is removed to reveal the kernel, which is boiled and dried in the sun before being shelled for pressing.

Aloe Vera

ALOE VERA
(Aloe barbadensis)

Featuring formidable hydrating, soothing and cooling properties, our aloe vera is harvested in the morning to maximise the amount of juice the sword-shaped fronds yield, before being freeze-dried to create a powder.

Apple Fruit Extract

APPLE FRUIT EXTRACT
(Pyrus malus x domestica)

Used for its ability to smooth and promote shine, we source our apples an award-winning organic farm in the heart of Herefordshire, England, where herbs have been grown and processed for 30 years. The farm has twice been the winner of the Silver Lapwing, the UK’s leading environmental and farming award.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointed! I have been a devotee of Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner for many years and i'm so disappointed with the new formulation. I agree with others that it leaves my hair straw like and doesn't lather as well as the old one. My biggest gripe is that it is almost impossible to squeeze out from the tube!! I'm sad to say that you are losing another loyal customer, I won't be buying again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 😔 new formula I loved the old formula, my hair had never looked better, even my hairdresser said so. Sadly though, my hair and I do not like the new shampoo. As per other reviewers, it’s difficult to lather, matts my hair and seems to have the effect of leaving my hair greasy, yet dry, frizzy and straw like. It’s really hard to squeeze out of the tube too. I wish Liz Earle had said it was a new formula on the tube, I hadn’t noticed and I had stocked up, and now it’s too late to return. I understand that if ingredients are unavailable, they cannot stick to the old formula, but this is so different. Sadly I will be finding another shampoo

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New formula is awful I loved the old formula, was perfect for my hair nut this new one leaves my hair looking like a birds nest when i have finished washing, as good as the conditioner is even that can't get the knots back out resulting in me loosing chunks of hair at a time. Needless to say i no longer use this!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing formula change. Doesn’t lather I have used the Liz Earle shampoo for many many years and absolutely loved it. The new formula is unusable for me. It doesn’t lather and appears the strip and dry out your hair. I wrote to liz Earle initially thinking my order was a faulty batch. No one bothered to reply. It was only reading the reviews I realised the formula had changed and they many fans felt the same. I’m my humble view it’s not worth even trying. It damaged rather than gentle cleansed and nourished my hair.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Botanical shampoo What has happened to what used to be my go to shampoo for many years. The new ingredients are awful doesn't lather up and doesn't leave hair feeling clean and fresh. Please please bring back the original formula

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible! Would strongly advise not to buy! I had this bought for me as a present- as my love for Liz Earle is widely known- but this formula is awful!! Possibly the worst shampoo I’ve ever tried - doesn’t lather, doesn’t clean the under layer properly and leaves hair feeling greasier than before I got in the shower!! Also lots of knots and tangles which is never something I’ve struggled with before. Very disappointed and will be binning

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No shine I've tried to like this but it doesn't lather well and there's absolutely no shine after using this and the conditioner. Also I hadn't realised how difficult using a tube like this would be, you have to close and reopen between shampoos. Awful.
Date published: 2024-02-10
Rated 1 out of 5 by from The new formula needs to be improved!! The old formula was great! but the new formula left my hair tangly, & my scalp itchy (probably due to the high amount of perfume in the new formula- perfume is 4th or 5th on the ingredients list!). So I won't be buying this shampoo again, unless the formula changes. Please listen to the reviews, & change the formula! I'm struggling to find a shampoo which was as good as the old formula. Can anyone recommend a good SLS free shampoo??

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What has happened!!! So disappointed with the new formula. I have used Liz Earle products since you started on QVC in the old pinky packaging. So many products have changed formulas including moisturisers but this shampoo is different in so many ways. That Liz earle smell is now missing from so many products. I am afraid to say the shampoo will not be used in future

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful new formula It makes me so sad to write this but the new formula is awful. It leaves my hair flat and like straw. It doesn’t even clean as well as the old shampoo and neither does it leave my hair soft and shiny like the old formula. I really hope they look into it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dreadful!!!! New Formula I used the original formula for years and looking back at photos my hair was long, thick with a healthy shine! This leaves my hair like straw and I’ve noticed a lot of breakage since using the new formula! Absolutely awful! Like most of the new formulations!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not going to try I was given this shampoo off a friend who had one already and suggested I’d try it .. after reading only a few of the reviews before trying the prouduct myself I’m saddened to say I’m not looking forward to using the shampoo atoll and I’m unsure weather to do so or not Unlikely to even try

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wish I’d known … I’ve been using this shampoo for years and loved it, so ordered a new supply not knowing the formula had been changed. I can live with the colour change (cream to clear), even the fact it doesn’t seem to foam so easily, but it leaves my hair flat and dull and, when I’ve used up my supply, I won’t be buying anymore unfortunately.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New formula is awful I have used Liz Earle shampoo for many years and it was lovely and gentle on my hair, however the new formula is awful. I bought it not knowing the ingredients had changed. It left my hair feeling dry, stiff and straw-like. I will not be purchasing again and have disposed of the tubes I bought. Such a shame a good brand has been ruined.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done to this product? I had been using Liz Earle shampoo for years. For some reason the texture is now a revolting gel type texture and the wonderful fragrance has gone, it used to be a comforting and relaxing fragrance. If it ain't broke don't try and fix it with an inferior product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The New Shampoo, Oh dear! Just used the new shampoo for the first time after using the last of the old and am now searching for an alternative. It doesn’t lather as well which I know isn’t vital and to be fair it wasn’t too bad BUT whilst washing it made my hair a matted, knotty mess. My hair is just below the jaw line, having just had 2 inches cut off and it’s very thick, so goodness knows how matted it would have got at the old length but this shampoo felt as if it was stripping everything out of my hair and it all clumped together until I used a huge dollop of conditioner. To be fair the end result after conditioner and drying is similar, perhaps slightly less shiny but the experience of using it and washing my hair was not pleasant, I didn’t enjoy having to really work the conditioner to separate the knotted mass of hair on my head. I’ve used a lot of Liz Earle but one by one over the years I’ve dropped various products after they’ve changed including the foundation, superskin oil, body wash and now it’s going to be the shampoo. It’s such a pity that new products never seem to improve on the old, quite the reverse!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Great conditioner I have fine hair and it dose not leave my hair limp like so many others do and the smell is Devine

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Please bring back the original formula I’ve bought this product for years. Originally it was to hopefully help with an itchy scalp. It solved the problem. I loved the fragrance and the texture of the shampoo and it left my hair shiny, smelling good and clean. This new formulation does not have the fragrance and the texture is gloopy and doesn’t lather the same, even if you add more water. Not a good move! Please make your customers happy and return to the original formula even if it costs more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best! My hair is down to my waist and in the past has been very thin and fine. I began using the Botanical Shine Shampoo about 4 years ago. The effect has been astonishing. Strangely my hair is now much thicker.Whatever is in this product really works and has a wonderful effect. It is the only shampoo I have ever used that makes a difference that you can actually see. I know it took a bit of time to thicken my hair but it did it and people comment, so all I can say to you is give it a try. It works for me and is a fabulous product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful new formula, leaves hair matted! So disappointed. I have loved the Liz Earle hair care range for years. I asked friends & family for shampoo & conditioner for my birthday, not realising Liz Earle had changed the formula. Whatever this new formula is, it ruins my hair. It’s akin to washing it with soap. It strips all the natural oils and leaves it unimaginably matted, within seconds of applying it to my hair! I now have several bottles to get rid of. Will never buy again!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor substitute! Have recently started a new tube of this shampoo & was so disappointed! Why have you changed another product?? The original formula was so much nicer & left my hair feeling really lovely. This doesn’t lather very well and just isn’t as good. Thankfully you changed the new version of “cleanse & polish” cleanser back to the original after many complaints, so fingers crossed you’ll do the same with this shampoo !

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed The new formula leaves my hair stripped and tight. Sadly not the gentle nice smelling formula it used to be and no longer a luxurious feel. Will not buy again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I have read your recent response to a customer review. You have stated that you will not be reformulating the shampoo. Why are you not listening to all of the negative reviews? Shame on you! Please rebrand your name because your products are nothing like the original Liz Earie.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst shampoo I’ve ever used This is the worst shampoo I have ever used! I like to look after my hair and always treat myself to what I consider to be luxury branded shampoo. I recently saw that Liz Earle offered a shampoo and conditioner and purchased them. I could not believe that despite wetting my hair fully the lather was minimal even after adding water but worst then that my hair felt like straw matting beneath my fingers a su tried to massage it in. I then used teh conditioner in attempt to bring it back to life but this also didn’t feel great and I resulted in having to put a deep conditioning treatment on my hair. I have a short Bob and dread to think how this would feel on longer hair. Totally disappointed and left with unusable products as I would not even give them away!

Why did you only ask a few (only 2O) of your loyal customers to try the reformulated shampoo? The constant negative reviews are a reflection of your poor trial of the shampoo.

Asked by: Orla26
Unfortunately you asked the wrong 84% of customers going by the negative reviews. I didn’t know formula had changed and hair was dry/ straw texture. Will not be using this again. Will say I still like the conditioner.

You have stated the reason for changing the formula of your bestselling shampoo is because the ingredients are difficult to source? I suspect the true reason for the drastic change in formula is cheaper, poor quality ingredients and profit for the company

Asked by: Del666
They probably need all the profit they can get , due to all the awful changes that have been made to most of the products. All the lovely spray oils , and bath oils ! Gone… All of the Energising body products! Gone…The Shampoo in its original formula , all gone !! Liz Earle never needed to have sales , when Liz still owned the company, but they do now !!

On your responses to the reviews about the change in formula,  botanicals are not available & your product team have worked hard on the new formula, how can this be when there is such a dramatic change, I left a bad review and will return the product.

Asked by: Mazzini
84% said they would change to the new formula ?? Forget your panel results and read the reviews on here. The shampoo is awful but will say the conditioner is still nice.

Hi I have used Liz Earle shampoo for many years, however the new Botanical shine shampoo is awful and this is such a shame. I feel you really need to listen to all the negative reviews and re look at this shampoo as you will definitely loose customers.

Asked by: Used Liz Earle for years
I agree too, I have tried to persevere but I won’t be buying anymore, not just because it strips my hair but because it’s too thick and with arthritis in my hands I struggle to squeeze it out of the tube. Very sad to have to find an alternative after so many years 😢
